It is thick because it uses thick thread. The opening has tension, so it can stretch to a head circumference of about 60cm. Size [Diameter] 28cm [Body opening] Approx. 50cm [Head circumference] ~ approx. 60cm Some people may find it a little tight when they first put it on. The knitting is stretchy, so the opening will expand as you put it on, making it just right.
